Quilt magazines to look thru would have been great when I first started, of course there wasn't pinterest then :-) Maybe you could show here some hexi's or other hand work as a home school mom it is nice to have hand work while my kids do their thing when we are at out sourced classes. Also, Craftsy's BOM from 2013 is free if you can watch in person a video is the next best thing. Can't wait till she pops on here and joins us :-)

I would add a 6 1/2" or 8 1/2" square ruler so she can square her blocks or for smaller cuts. Also a package of rotary blades since they are so pricey. What a wonderful thing you are doing for her. Hope she is close enough so you can help/see her projects.

She needs at least two rulers ... 6x24 and a square ... perhaps a 9.5". I don't know about the rest of you but I need two rulers to cut.
Cutting mat
Rotary cutter
Scraps, pre-cuts, FQ's, or thrift shop yardage.
Scraps of batting.

An iron if she doesn't have one
Point her to http://quilterscache.com/BlocksbySizeB.html for some pot-holder size blocks that she can make as practice (then have something useful in the end - she can even make Christmas gifts!).

My DDIL sews with me so I understand your excitement! I would love to send her some FQ from my stash. Sending you a PM for address. Next generation quilters are so different from us(I"m 70)so we can learn a lot from them also!!
