We seem to go through so many irons. We were happy with our Black and Decker classic because of the weight and the fact that it gets really hot. Most of the irons we have had never get hot enough to press anything. Unfortunately the B&D just bit the dust after less than a year.

Suggestions? We like an iron that gets HOT and has some weight to it.

Hmmm - I have one, also, and it's going on 10 years (only used about five months a year, tho)

It does get hot!

I'm buying this iron next. I really like a dry iron because they don't have holes to catch on seams or that leave polka dots on appliques.

If the link breaks just search Home Depot for the dry iron.

I have the no steam iron as in the links above. It's been and still is a great iron. It will never ever ever spit, sputter or leak. LOL.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for the link. We have looked for a dry iron for such a long time. Have not seen one in years. I might have to cancel my order for the replacement B&D. Wow, a DRY iron!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also have the Continental dry iron that I just got about 2 months ago from Vermont Country Store (mail order). It is absolutely wonderful, has a great weight and lo and behold - it has an OFF setting! Miracle of miracles!

The only thing I don't like about it is that the cord is located too far down on the handle of the iron so that when I try to set it down on the ironing board (standing up on the heel of the iron), the cord is in the way and makes the iron very unstable and it has fallen off the board. I was able to grab it before it burned my carpet. Maybe if the part of the cord that attaches to the iron was flexible (it's very stiff), it wouldn't have that problem. Fortunately, my ironing board has a Polder iron caddy attached to it, so I have had to get used to using it. I still wish I could set the iron down on its heel. Oh well.

Anyway, I sure do love this iron a whole lot more than my expensive Rowenta (which does not have an OFF setting)!
