How do you decide on a pattern?

If I don't have a pattern in mind I will put the fab's away. Generally I let the fabs tell me what they want. Sometimes I will run across a pattern that will be perfect for fabrics I have already. For about a year I had been collecting black, white and red without a pattern in mind then about 3 weeks ago I saw a pattern in a magazine and knew it was perfect for those fab's. Now if I could just find the time to work on it.

I spend more time finding a pattern then the actual cutting of the quilt. The fabric choice are themnext most time consuming. My DH tells me that nothing is worth the time it takes to get to the sewing part. I guess because I want it to be just right to me.

Generally the fabric dictates what pattern, I tend to buy fabric when I like it,, stash it until I either see a pattern I like or an reason to make one.
Rarely do I go in search of fabric, because I always seem to not be able to find what I want.
I shop sales, & use coupons,, stocking up.
