How do you put on your BINDING
#22
This is exactly how I do it too!
Machine stitch double binding to the front mitering all four corners, fold over to the back and hand stitch with a ladder stitch (becaue its invisible) using the machine stitch line as a guide.

Usually, I machine sew it to the front and hand sew it to the back. If it's a charity quilt, I just fold the back over and stitch it to the front with a zig zag or blanket stitch. I've tried Leah Day's way of machine sewing the whole thing, but I wasn't happy with how it looked, and so I ripped it all out and started again the way I've always done it. Some people use a decorative stitch. I haven't tried that.

I've used several of the methods above.
Machine back to front if machine stitching down, or decorative stitch.
Machine front first if hand hemming.
The best part is the Happy Dance when it's done !!! :)

However you apply your binding the one thing you should try at least once is to NOT press the binding in 1/2 before you sew it on the quilt. Just line up the two raw edges when you sew it to the quilt and you will be amazed at how easily it actually lays over to the other side-perfectly.

I machine to the front and then fold over to the back, making mitered corners and then machine sew... If I sew it in just the place on the back, it appears in the ditch on the front (which is not seen!)
