Never had any problem with my 1530 Bernina or my 550 Bernina Using he #37 foot. I have done scant and the 1/4 and a little more if needed in the pattern I am doing.

I don't understand why you need a scant quarter inch. Can anyone clarify this? Maybe certain patterns? I've never encountered it. I do sew on one machine only per quilt as all quarter inch seams can be different on different machines.
I have the 440 machine and always use the foot #37 and never move my needle.
