How LONG is it?
As I learn to make table runners, is there a rule for their lengths. Does it sit in the middle of the table with room around the edges for the plates? Does it cover the top of the table so the end plates will sit on it comfortably? Does it hang over the edge? How much? Thanks for any help you may give.

I agree, I think it's personal preference. My mom likes hers small and in the center with room around it. My daughter likes hers hanging off the ends. and I like mine on someone else's table. I don't use one.lol

I make it long "enough" Sometimes just for the top within 6 inches of the ends. Sometimes over the edges. Cofffee table is over the edge, Dining table is short. Remember those crocheted antimacassars and bureau scarves in the antique stores?? I had elderly relatives that would have felt naked without them on the furniture

It depends on the table and the recipient. Is the person going to want room for placemats and place settings at the table end? Is it an entryway table? I have seen entryway tablerunners that go the full length with a hang over and tassle on the triangle point. I like my tablerunner for my table to be about the same distance from the ends as it is from the sides of the table.
