I just purchased some flannel material that has a grid printed on it to use for a design wall. I have also re-arranged my sewing/guest room so that I have a blank wall totally cleared. What's the best way to attach the flannel to the wall once it comes in? Love to hear the ideas! Guess I would also say that this will be a somewhat permanent placement...meaning I'm not planning to take it down for travel, etc....it's intended to stay in place but I don't want something that will really mess up my wall in case I sell the house in years to come. Thanks for your help!

If you purchase the inexpensive foam insulation boards, you can attach your flannel to them. You can tape the boards together for a large one, or cut them easily to any size/configuration.
These are so light weight you can attach them to the wall with a very few nails or screws. You can also pin into them, which is helpful due to the weight of some strips/quilt tops.

I'd use push pins into the seam between the wall and ceiling.

I just hung a curtain rod & made a pocket on my flannel, works just fine. You only need 4 nails/screws for the brackets & you could if you wanted to, take down the design wall & take it to retreat with you.

i used the 1" thick white foam board; comes in sheets 4'x8' for about $4 a sheet. i bought 3 of them so my design wall is 8' high by 12' wide. i covered each sheet with white flannel individually then butted them up to each other.

What size is your curtain rod? Did you also make a pocket in the bottom as well and put a dowel in it to weigh it down or do you think it needs that?

my hubby bought me a 4x8 sheet of insulboard at home depot you can wrap the flannel over the edges and pin in place. we attached it to the wall with large "T" pins. you can pin into it when you have a heavy piece of fabric or a whole quilt its light weight and sturdy. doesn't break down like styrofoam. where did you find the gridded flannel?

We have plaster walls so can't use push pins and DH gets chest pains if I put nails in the wall. I hung my curtain rod with Command Performance Adhesive strips; you're supposed to be able to remove them without damaging paint or paper on the wall. I just folded over the top of a large flannel bed sheet and pinned it to slip the rod through. It's been up for over 2 yrs and the adhesive thingys are still holding it (and DH is very happy there are no more nails in the wall).

I did the same using a tension rod that fits nicely on the wall between two window casings.
