It's do-able ... depends on how curvy your applique is, affecting how much you will need to twist/turn the quilt. Combine that with how big/small your quilt is as to how cumbersome it may or may not be to do it.

For me, I would sooner use a straight stitch for that close up work, as I can be more accurate and even. FMQing of any sort for me, is better away from edge-work ... and you sure do not want to mess up against the beauty of your hand applique work! But that's ..... me!!

Another thought - if you went to 1/4" inch-ish instead of 1/8", you could use a ruler "toe" or maybe even a regular round toe on the FMQ/hopping foot and use the outside edge of the toe as the guide to follow the edge of the applique. 1/8" is fairly small, and 1/4" might feel more natural.

I would move my needle to the right to about 1/8" of center, then stitch with a walking foot.

Thanks for the idea! I am so "dense" when it comes to figuring out quilting solutions. I really depend on Quilting Board's help!

I'm embarrassed to say that never occurred to me! I have been learning FMQ by using the BSR on my Bernina, but that would be way too cumbersome to try to outline quilt with it. I have never thought of there being a separate round foot that could be used as a distance guide! Thanks!
