Default Husqvarna Viking 150 Free Motion Quilting foot?

Hi, I'm new to this forum and to quilting - working on my first quilt. Just got to the point of starting to join the three layers together, and want to try learning basic FMQ. Went to Joanns Fabrics with my machine to buy a FMQ foot - only thing they had that would fit was darning foot, and it held fabric tight to machine's plate, even with feed dogs down, so won't work. Anyone have this machine and have found an offbrand quilting foot that will fit?

I don't have my 150 anymore, but on my Viking 183 I use a hoping foot and it works fine. Mine is for Viking but I believe you can buy any hoping foot that fits a short shank machine. I'd go on the web to research.

you could check 'Nancy's Notions' on line- they carry a number of different feet...Clotilde's does too.
personally i would not spend money on an 'off brand' foot for my viking- it was way too expensive to mess up using the incorrect feet.
the one you purchased at joannes was probably a long shaft foot- you need a short shaft foot. they are called- hopping foot, darning foot and quilting foot- depending on where you shop for it- it should move up & down (hop) with each stitch

I have a 190 named Sven and don't FMQ with him. Two years ago, I invested in a Viking walking foot ($$$). Looked to see what would work for FMQ. Probably foot #411 73 90-01, the Darning Foot. I am curious to hear what you find for this! I love my 190 so much I bought another one on Ebay. It sews anything I throw at it.

Aaahhh! Silly me - just read in the owner's manual that I need to turn the presser foot pressure dial all the way down to the symbol for darning, which completely releases all pressure from the foot and allows the material to move freely between hops, along with using darning foot 4117390-01. Thanks to all, I'm ready to move forward.
