Default Husvarna Mega Quilter

Does anyone have one of these and find it difficult to find the correct weight thread for quilting? I was told to use only 40 weight top & bottom, and this works (after playing with the bobbin tension). But can't use any other weight without the machine stopping frequently. Am I supposed to play with the screw on the bobbin every time I want to try another weight thread? What do you recommend?

Which one do you have? Viking had 2 mega quilters, an 8X18 long arm and a domestic type machine with a 9 inch harp. I have the long arm and I use lots of different weight threads. Yes, I need to adjust the bobbin case. Actually, I bought a second case. One adjusted for 40 weight, and one for thinner threads.

I agree with buying a second bobbin case as it might be eaiser than adjusting bobbin case each time

I'd call Husqvarna and talked to their service department. They may have an answer for you.

That sounds like a good idea. I thought about giving up entirely on Husqvarna after having a serger that was not user friendly. Could never figure out how to thread it successfully, so just returned it.

I have the 9 inch harp. Your idea of the second bobbin case is a good one. Just hope I can quilt with a thinner thread.

Superior threads makes a bobbin tension gauge that I find helpful. You van read about it on their website. That said, I must admit I have about 4 different bobbins set for the different threads I use. They fit great in old medicine bottles and I use a sharpie to mark the top.

When I bought mine I was told that Viking recommends Aurifil, which I love for peicing and I never had a tension problem with it either,

I have the Viking Topaz 20 and tried to use a bobbin thread for embroidery and it did not work - so I use white 40 wt in the bobbin. It is not a big deal to me - but I do understand what you are saying. So I would agree with the idea of getting a second bobbin case rather than changing the tension.
