I have never come across a block I didn't like making, that I can think of.

When I make LCBs I always start with the center piece cut to size, every other piece I add to the block is over cut in size and trimmed after I sew it on. I've been known to sew a 10" sq to the edge of LCB and trim it after sewing it in place. It takes no more time than if you pre cut everything to size before you sew. If a seam is crooked you can adjust it in the next round, trim a little narrower or wider, what ever you need to square it.

I really like doing them this way. I am trying to use up 20 years of scraps and the LCB is my go to pattern to use up lots of fabric.

PPing is a great way to make LCBs too. Once again you don't have to have perfect size pieces and they are trimmed after each piece. Then just removing the paper which is an added step but worth the doing.

Sometimes a block just isn't meant for you, that's okay. You will be much happier trying something else.

peace

How were you able to get into this site. It doesn't work for me. It's not blue.

Have you tried Deb Tucker's Wing Clipper tool?? It allows you to make PERFECT (and I do mean PERFECT) flying geese in multiple sizes. Check out her video for this tool on her website - Studio 180 Designs.net

I took a class a while back using Eleanor Burns method. The instructor kept telling us, "just sew the way I am telling you and don't worry, it will be perfect". And, lo and behold, it was! Somehow it all came together beautifully. I haven't made another only because I have other projects in the works. I took a Judy Niemeyer paper piecing class and stayed confused. Then recently I took a Carol Doak paper piecing class and loved it.

My first pieced quilt was a Pineapple Paper Pieced. There is a picture on this board of it, but not in the Archives Try the paper pieced before giving up. The Block is numbered and the direction for cutting are easy.. but I learned to cut each piece larger than required. Because sometimes I used to much for seam allowance and this way I had plenty for that 1/4 inch.. Though I do have a couple patterns I feel the same way you do ! There is leave in paper for this but I used copy paper.. Hope you try because the log cabin... courthouse steps and Pineapple are so versatile and Beautiful.
