It is a very user friendly machine and a workhorse. You will love it.

I love your machine, I have one just like it, a 401A, I really like sewing on it, bought it new in 1960, and have sewed a great deal, clothes (for seven kids) and quilting, etc.

The stool might have been from Singer. I have one very much like it that did come with my Mom's 1951 15-91.

The cabinet is beautiful! What fun!

I have my moms 401A. I learned to sew on it when I was four. Used it until I got married and now it's back in my life. I love this machine. Enjoy yours, Happy Birthday.

I love your machine and cabinet!!! I have a Singer 500A (Rocketeer) and would love to find a 401 to go with it.

DH just figured out that this baby girl is from Anderson, North Carolina 1951. They were only manufactured there for one year. It is so exciting to learn about her. I know her previous owner was an avid seamstres and quilter. Also the previous owner engraved her SS number in the foot pedal and the machine itself. She appears to be very well cared for but unfortunately the son and grandson damaged the cabinet and machine a bit when transporting and handling her (hinges and scratches). DH is Mr. Fixed so I am hopeful.

^5 to hubby! The fold out top makes a great sewing surface.
