I have a 12 pattern but need the finshed block to be 12.5

This doesn't answer your EXACT question but it will point you to a recent conversation about 12 ½" FINISHED blocks. http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...s-t211798.html

The definition of "finished" can be misleading. When a pattern says "finished", it means finished IN THE QUILT, with all blocks assembled. So when you sew just the block, it ends up at 12.5, which includes the seam allowance of a quarter inch on all sides. Once it's sewn into a top with sashing or other blocks, it "finishes" at 12".

I think you answered my question. Finished is misleading. I looked at quilterscache.com and found a block I want to do for a BOM swap that the rules were the block had to measure 12.5 but the "finished" block measured 12.
Thank you ALL who responded. You girls are such help!
