In my area, KS, it is just the opposite, Salvation Army Thrift Store is very high, Goodwill stores are okay. Our Goodwill Store has senior discount day on Tuesday. Salvation Army senior discount day is Wednesday. I have seen a little quilt fabric in the Salvation Army store but none in the Goodwill. Serenitybygrace

I prefer handquilting, but I do baby quilts on the machine, so all-cotton sheets work fine for those--even if densely woven. Why baby quilts by machine? These require frequent washing (babies don't care where/how often they spit up!), and the machine quilting holds up better through all that machine washing.

[quote=june6995]For those who have St. Vincent dePaul thrift stores in your area, you may find some good buys there. I pay $1.50 and $1.99 for my flat sheets. I don't know if they have a standard price guide in other states, but I do know that in OHIO they are very reasonable. I use them on the backs of my quilts. I have even gotten some to make curtains. I no longer shop at Goodwill because they have gotten so high.
{quote=June}Please tell us about the Thrift stores in your area and how their prices are. We can all use a good trip to a Thrift store and help a charity at the same time.{June in Cincinnati /quote}
I like the Humane Society store in our downtown area. I once got five white cotton (king size) sheets for fifty cents each. A local hotel had donated over a hundred of them when they bought all new ones. They were all the flats, which I prefer anyhow. Too much trouble cutting up the fitted. I have gotten so many good deals there. Including quilt books and patterns.
