I had the same disaster with a handquilted quilt.
I soaked it in Oxyclean several times. The first time was only for about an hour...as soon as the water turned quite red I would rinse and repeat. I ended up soaking it about 4 times I think...the last time was overnight.
The red all ended up coming out and the quilt was fine.
