stitch-n-frame.net is wonderful. There is a weekly Thursday special. Customer service is great.

I had to shop online for 9 years while living in remote alaska...

where go online really depends on YOU...your budget, your project, your theme....

PM me for a very long list if you like!
OR you can start with http://www.quiltshops.com!

for sheer "finding exactly the right fabric", you can't beat equilter.com and their customer service is wonderful!

I actually have had good luck with a number of sites. I am using Thousands of Bolts right now, and am very happy with them. Connecting Threads is good, too.

http://www.whittlesfabrics.com/

They are near me so I don't actually order but their prices are good and they are always cutting internet orders when I am there.

I find equilter.com the best. They feature all the new fabric lines and and they display the swatches as thumbnails which can be enlarged for greater detail. I find the description and color shown are very close to the real fabric. If you join the e-mail list there are bi-weekly announcements of new fabrics.
