There is NO need to cut off those points if one has been taught good quilting and design skills. I'm surprised at that shop, but it bears out my assertion that too many quilt shops are owned and run by hobbyists not experienced teachers/business people.

Oh no, Faten, no way! Earthquakes, high cost of living, no change of seasons, weird/wonky people, high crime, bad air (in many places).....nope, you come here to the beautiful mountains and foothills in central Virginia where the living is easy, the air is clean, and we celebrate 4 lovely seasons every year! And I also teach here.

I wish i can find another spot and just move but it is hard if you didn't really visit. I am planning on cross country trip with my husband so we can explore other States so hopefully that would open new horizons...:-)

The points would only be cut off if you cut the block exactly on the diagonal. If you cut it 1/4" passed the diagonal, the points would be preserved. If you wanted to construct the block 'correctly' with no bias edges:
construct the lower right portion of the block using the normal construction method you used for the rest of the quilt. Then cut the 5 black setting triangles using the chart or calculation from Bonnie Hunter's site.
