I hand quilt and use templates for everything. Just go to LQS and look for the large sheets of template material.. they make them in at least a couple of sizes. Hobby Lobby also carries the large sheets of Template material. I'm not sure of the exact dimensions, but I know it's quite a bit larger than the standard 8x11.5" sheets. http://www.quiltfabricstore.com/prod...8in-p-764.html there's one for an example.

If you just need to make them all a uniform square a square-up ruler I think would be the easiest way. Or fold in half and in half again, pinch the center of the fold and when you unfold, you will have the center marked and can trim around as you need to.

Thanks everyone. I tried Home Depot here in town and they wouldn't cut to size for me. So I ended up calling our local glass company, told them what I wanted, they cut me a piece of acrlic the size I wanted for less then 8.00 and in an hour I had it. So hubby is thrilled I get to continue on his quilt. I appreciated everyones ideas!

can't get that anymore. just tried. they use discs now. we are so advanced, it makes me scream!

they take the pictures the same way, but they expose them, or whatever, onto a disc, instead of that x-ray sheet that we're used to seeing. then they scan them on a computer. that way their files are itty-bitty.

I buy the thick plastic cutting mats at the dollar store to cut for a template. It is thick, does not roll, bendable. I then use "handle" with a suction cap to attach to the template to keep it in place on the material.

Thats a great idea too. With this I needed to be able to see through it, and that was my obstacle. But I will have to try what you do, would be alot cheaper when I need another template.

I normally tape some of the purchased template material together, and it works ok. I overlap it and tape both sides, then cut to the size I need.

I know alco has 8.5 x 11 sheets of "templet" material which is hard plastic thicker than the old Xray material.....I thought I saw Mary jos having some in the bigger sizes ..you can square it up easy since it has a grid on it

Glass might work. Buy a cheapie picture frame with glass bigger than you need and cut it down. Glass cuts easily.
