Be careful how you wash your quilt!!!!!

Use cool water, a small amount of soap and
slight agitation. Best if done in a very clean bathtub
using special quilt soap ( Orvis used for horses).

Make sure your soap has dissolved completely in the water before you put the quilt in. Rinse thoroughly.

Place towels under the wet quilt to get the excess water out.Use the towels to help you lift quilt out of the tub.

Excessive Handling of the wet quilt tends to stretch it.
Lay the quilt flat to dry.

You can also use a child's wading pool to wash the quilt.

Instead of washing, vacuum your quilt using low
suction.

Use a lint remover (taped roller) to remove hairs
and extra threads.

That's a good way to clean antique or fragile quilts, except that you don't want to agitate them.

For modern quilts, washing them in a front-loading washing machine works just fine. I don't have one of those, so I go to the laundromat. You can dry them completely or partially in the dryer, or you can use the laundromat's spinning machine to remove excess water weight and then hang it or dry it flat.

I use regular laundry detergent (I make my own laundry detergent) and no fabric softener.
