I need some suggestions with borders please!!!!!
I am trying to make a throw quilt for my DH's brother's 50th wedding anniversary. They are embroidery religious blocks. There is a total of 12 blocks. 6 are 6 wide x 9 high and 6 are 9 wide x 6 high. So I came up with placing them
6 x 9 (5 inch sashing) 9 x 6 (5 inch sashing) 6 x 9
(5 inch sashing>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>)
9 x 6 (5 inch sashing) 6 x 9 (5 inch sashing) 9 x 6
So the blocks will make a complete square of 33 wide by 47 long..with no borders. I was thinking.. should I add a small border, then another 5 inch border then my binding? Also what color fabric should I use. I am attaching a link with a picture of all the designs. I am not sure if the religious fabric with little brown praying hands or cross on white fabric would work for this or not.
Thanks for any and all help and suggestions I can get.

What might be best would be for you to assemble it as you have planned and then make your decisions.
Many of us are visual thinkers, and a picture posted at that time, might get you lots of suggestions. And too, you might not need anyone's help as once you have it sewn all together you won't be doing the guesswork you are now ... and might know right away what you want to do!

I wouldn't use a print of any type. I think it will detract from your embroidery. Stick with soft colors from your embroidery so that when your quilt is viewed the main point of interest in the embroidery, not the sashing or the borders. I would even consider sashing it in the same color as the blocks are made in, and using the color or the border the same as you would use the color of a picture frame. Keep all the interest on your blocks.
