Don't have time to read all the comments, but how about doing a French Braid table runner as practice from you stash fabrics? That would get you accustomed to the pattern & then you would feel that you could do it. It's going to be gorgeous.

Does anyone know where to find a free French braid pattern? I saw a table runner this weekend at the Tulip Festival and it looked fairly simple to do but need the measurements.
