I've been reading this board for some months now...it's amazing the inspiration and creative juices that get going when I look at the quilts and projects everyone has done! So, now...in my mind I'm 'creating' a quilt -but for now all I have is a set of colors I want to work with. No idea what the pattern will be... but I have a pallette! ;-)

Do you ever do that? Which part of a quilt comes first in your imagination?

Sometimes it is the pattern, other times with the fabric. :D:D:D

very rarely do i start with the fabric first.

i typically come up with my design and then i hit the stash, if i don't have the exact fabric i'd like i just make it by dyeing, stencil, screen printing, etc.

I design a lot of what I make. I just get some grid paper out and go to town with it. I designed a pillow, table runner, and doll quilt for Christmas gifts last year.

Sometimes a fabric will inspire a design, and grow from there.

definitely. Having a stash helps me pick out a palette first.

Most of my quilts start with a purpose/person in mind. Then I try to tailor the pattern and colors to that person. I rarely make a quilt with no purpose in mind.
