And I have back up machines for back up machines, I guess that comes with collecting them. But I really hope it is something simple like the grub screw coming loose.
There are some machines that have a hollow needle shaft and they can shear.

I share your pain. In August the needle bar frame inside my Viking #1 broke. I was letting a friend sew at the time and the needle hit a zipper pull. Fortunately I have a little machine for carrying to workshops so I could keep piecing but I couldn't quilt. DH got me an early Christmas present so I now have a baby lock Symphony too!
