I thought to heck with the rhubarb jelly making right now and went into my quilt room loaded with the great suggestions you all gave me. Now I'm embarassed to even say this but my problem was, I wasn't taking into consideration that 1/2 inch would be taken up with the seams. When I sewed that, voila' the strips fit.
Thank you all so much. I honestly don't know how I would quilt without my online friends.

Glad your problem was solved. I usually do as dragonquilter suggested: Sewing on two side strips, then adding the cornerstones to the top and bottom strips.
