I got some invesable thread to do a stitch in the ditch on a quilt. Has anyone used it before - any suggestions? What should I put my tension on? I have a Janome 8050.

check with your manual. Also, different machines like different invisible thread. So you just have to tinker with it.

Make sure that your invisible is Polyester NOT Nylon (Nylon can melt in the heat of the iron). I have used Polyester for SID with color-matching cotton in the bobbin. It has been washed to bits and the stitches still hold.

As for the tension: I would recommend you try it on a scrap sandwich.

If using it for on botton, load your bobbin slowly... it will stretch and tighten on bobbin.

I loved using it on the top side of my old machine, The bobbin scensor sees it, but it will not see it on the top side....go figure

Right now I'm using nylon, and I've not had any problems with it melting. It is for a wall hanging, and won't get washed much. I don't know how it would hold up for a quilt to be used. Some people complain about it poking them. (aargh, I knew this would be a double post, sorry!)

I don't change the tension on my machine. I change the tension on the thread. I taped a safety pin to the end of my sewing machine, put my thread on a thread stand behind the machine run the thread through the hole in the safety pin and then through the sewing machine as usual. This works great on my Baby Lock Ellegante, it may work for you also.
