Default Invisible thread

I'm having problems with the invisible thread spool on top. The spool is not unwinding easily as I sew. It wraps around the vertical spool holder and it goes tight with the thread in a nick in the horizontal spool to put thread when not in use.

has anybody else had these problems and how did you over come them?

I always use a thread net over invisible thread. Superior Threads sells them:

Another reason why I detest monofilament thread, but to answer your question, I made my own DIY thread stand with a coffee mug (thanks to crossstitcher for this tip!):

definitely use a thread net. i've gotten mine free from the local florist... they throw them away when the new flowers come with them. do you have a disk that fits over the thread spindle to hold the spool on? if you use one that is larger than the diameter of the spool, it will keep the thread away from the nick in the spool edge.

I always flip the spool over so the nick is at the back or bottom so the thread doesn't catch on the nick. A thread net may help as well as others have mentioned.

I too use a spool net but I also use a horizontal spool pin instead of vertically unless I place it on a stand up holder behind the machine. Make sure the nick in the spool is at the bottom and the thread is unwinding in the correct direction for your machine.

I tell people it's like sewing with hair. Almost impossible. I place mine in an empty peanut butter jar with a grommet on top so it bounces freely in the jar.

I have used Sulky invisible thread with the small regular thin spool. I have never had a problem.

Thank you for all your advice. I will get a net and try making the cd spool holder. I have been using the invisible thread every month since last September with no trouble. This month it has driven me round the bend with sudden tightening.
this site is great for help in our hour of need.

On the longarm I use a thread net. On the DSM I just put the spool in a coffee cup behind the sewing machine.
