    Default Janome 1600P-QC tension problems

I just purchased a Janome 1600P-QC. I am having difficulty getting the tension correct. I have referred to the manual, youtube, and internet chats but have not be successful in getting suggestions. The fabric keeps gathering and bunching. I am new to the Quilting Board so if this issue has already been discussed, please link me to the thread. Thanks so much!

Leah day sells those machines and she has some
videos on them. She is also responsive to questions. Maybe if you haven’t tried her she can help.

The troubleshooting section of my manual says to check these things:
    1) Threading is incorrect
    2) Wrong needle for the fabric and thread in use
    3) Upper thread tension is too high
    4) Bobbin tension is too high
    5) You're sewing a lightweight fabric with the feed dogs in a heavyweight position
