Default Have you/would you use this baby quilt kit?

I bought this baby quilt kit..."Quick Quilts Sweet Dreams Scrappy Baby Quilt Kit" at least a couple years ago. I'm almost positive I bought it at Joann's on clearance. I had no need for it at the time but the price was right and figured the day would come that it could be of use. That day has come. We just found out on Saturday that there is a Great Grandbaby coming in January. Of course I'm anxious to get shopping and get some fabric and patterns to get some things started for this little boy.

My question......I just dug this kit out and opened it up to starch and iron the fabrics. There are (13) 6 1/2 asstd fabrics, (1) 12 x 42 piece for binding and 1 yard of flannel for the backing. In ironing these fabrics I discovered they are not 100% cotton...just by the feel. I can't find any where that it tells you what it is.

Would you use this for a babies quilt or just save myself the work and trash it? I'm hoping maybe someone else on here may have bought this kit.

go ahead and make the quilt- once it is washed it will probably soften up- it is probably a poly/cotton blend- which will hold up well to lots of washing/use - *most* of joanne's kits are made with blends- not 100% cottons- but they still work fine- use what you have- then shop & buy something more special for a second quilt...this one will make a cute use a lot quilt.

I would think the package would say whether or not the fabric is 100% cotton. You might also try the burn test to know for sure. I am not sure whether I would trash it or not, if it has blend fabrics. I do make all my quilts from 100% cotton. I am just enough of a beginner that I don't know the consequences of using blend fabrics.

Don't trash it. You paid good money for it and once you finish it, if you don't like it give it to a shelter, fire department or day care. There is always a need someplace for what ever.

Agreed. I definitely wouldn't trash it.

I 100% agree! If you don't want to make it, give it to a local quilt guild - someone will make it.

Get buzzy and make it with love. The washings will tell the story. Then decide if it is for family or a give a way. Hugs

Prewash the fabric and see what it looks like. Then decide if it's worth your time and energy to work on.
