    Default Janome 8050 elastic problems

Help! I just got my Janome and I love it except for when I try to use elastic! I have been trying to zigzag some elastic into an item and the thread breaks or skips and I don't know what to do. i've played with the tension and changed thread etc. i eventually had to get out my old brother to finish the job but I want to use my new machine so any ideas?

Did you try using a little bit larger needle?

What size of stitch were you using? When sewing elastic I use the 3 step zigzag stitch and setting it at a long length. Instead of looking like zigzag it will look curved. Also, do not hold the elastic too tight while sewing. I usually use a stretch needle or universal for sewing elastic. If it is a thick elastic I use a size 14. I usually have the tension knob at 3. Hope this helps.

thanks so much! I changed the needle to a universal and re-threaded the bobbin just in case (i had a pre-wound bobbin in there with a different thinner thread) and it works perfect now! I'm so glad I wrote here and took the advice above before going back to my old machine. I was considering returning the Janome but I know it's a much better, sturdier machine so I'd hate to do that. I'm so happy! Thanks again!
