Here are a couple pics of your quilt I played with. The second one I just flipped the middle upside down. It would be great if you wanted to applique flowers or something in the white areas too

I like Baloonatics pictures of one she previously did. I do also agree adding applique. Maybe some flowers or a few of her favorite things.

These are all great ideas! Your strips are bright and cheerful and if you add some applique of items that she likes it would become very personal.

If you think it needs more color, since you have a bright red, you might add some fairly bright dark blue, either as applique or borders. Since blues are hard to match, either take some of the blues in the quilt with you or a photo if you have to shop. I said "fairly bright dark blue" rather than bright blue/medium blue because the latter is less liikely to match.
