My daughter put a whole finished quilt top in the wash because something got on it, it raveled out so bad there were holes everywhere and it wasn't from her sewing it was from the fabric raveling and it was expensive nice cotton quilting fabric.

I never wash precuts and I haven't had a problem. Use color catchers to wash the quilt. If i givè the quilt away, I give them directions to use color catchers when washing.

I wash charms and layer cakes, but never a jelly roll. I would press it with steam before I used it to get rid of excessive shrinkage. My worst shrinker was a RJR that I hadn't prewashed. When I pressed the finished block, that fabric shrunk so much it distorted the block. That made me a prewasher, big time.

My washer has a handwash cycle. It gently swishes and just spins enough to drain the water. I discovered any fabric or pre cuts I wash with this cycle does not ravel or get out of shape. I let the pre cuts air dry. I would never put pre cuts in a regular washing machine. Again. LOL.

I use Moda exclusively and have never prewashed any of it. ESPECIALLY precuts. When I first started working with jelly rolls, I bought some at Wally World. Well, I prewashed them and they all frayed and turned into a big ball of thread. I took it back to Wally World and they gave me my money back. I was lucky to get my money back. I have had nothing but good luck with Moda and I always buy it online.
