I have all the versions and they have been life savers for me, since I am still quite the klutz with a rotary cutter.

I have used them for many years and am on my third one (they break when you step on them), I have all sizes and can't imagine quilting without one. WalMart has them as does Hobby Lobby and other stores. I consider them a value at list price, but if you can use a coupon it's even better.

It's a ruler that has slits in it that your rotary cutter fits into. It's great for making strips of equal width.

Here's a link to what one looks like. You can see the teardrop shapes at the top and bottom of the ruler. You put your rotary cutter into those teardrop shapes and cut. http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-63070-1.htm

I have two and use them frequently but with caution. I have to cut sitting down due to disability and if you don't hold your cutter completely upright you can actually nudge the sections and make your strip have that dreaded curve effect. Once you are aware of the possibility and pay attention, they are wonderful tools!

I've had mine since they first came out. Its almost exclusively what I use. I wouldn't think of cutting up my blocks any other way. Slice and dice in one direction, pick up and slice and dice in other direction. TADAH!!!

In fact, I even purchased the one with 1/4" on it. My absolute favorite quilting notion!!!

Sounds great! What size is the best to start with?

You will use it more than you think. Good investment. Go for it!
