I am planning to make 9 pillows, hand appliqued and hand quilted, decorated with buttons and beads. I will use 100% cotton, a very light batting (Pellon i think) and a piece of muslin behind the batting. My question is should I also use stabilizer behind the cotton top, and should I sew the buttons through all layers of the pillow top to just the top fabric? It's a big project and I want to get it right so I would appreciate any ideas you have. Thanks in advance. Gaga

I'd try one that way and then see how you think it went. Then adjust your plans. I'm planning on making a sit-up-in-bed pillow for myself and plan on using thermolan as a thin batting. I'm going to machine quilt, though.
