You can use whatever you like.
Just don't put any thing Seriously Hot directly on the table topper if you use poly. A hot mat under the pot will do fine.

I use warm & natural, or insul-brite. :)

I hate that shrinky puckered look, so I always prewash any batting with cotton in it.
