log cabin
What is your favorite method of sewing the log cabin strips I'm making placements the directions have it it that you sew the first 2 strips 11/4 x 8 together then just sew trim and press the rest of the strips as you go around I'm not likeing doing it this way I would rather have all my strips cut to size,my placements are slightly wonky doing the trim as you go ugh! I have done log cabin where all the strips were cut to size for each round the block came out so much better what is your favorite way sewing these.

I usually do trim as you go. I did pot holders for friends one time that I paper pieced and I really liked the way they turned out. I just drew one for a pattern, then copied them on my printer. Very easy. I sometimes go the wrong direction when adding the next strip. With pp, the order is numbered. No mixups.

I use Judy Martin's method of cutting the strips to the correct size before you start sewing. The strips go into individual containers.
I design eight cabins at a time on the Design Wall. Then take a photo of the eight cabin-blocks before starting to sew the first two strips together.
The camera catches booboos.
Then I chain piece. If you manage to get the chained pieces mixed up, check the camera!
I love her method and her books have clear and detailed instructions.
