For the ones that are way too big, it might be a good idea to re-sew some of the seams to make the piece smaller. Wouldn't necessarily need to un-sew first. This could make the difference on those pieces where starch does not seem to be enough.

It is possible just to fudge a little bit on each of the larger diamonds and see if that will make them fit. If you are piecing on the sewing machine, put the larger piece on the bottom and the feed dogs will help to ease it in.

Not that it would help at this point BUT a college level quilting professor friend of mine had the same problem.. We figured out (much too late, of course) that the template was "OFF", throwing the whole thing off like yours. So, don't dispair-I probably is nothing YOU did!!!

    Born to Quilt,

You're far too nice. I wish I could blame it on an "off" template. But I can't. I've blocked all the star-arm diamonds, and I did lay out all the newly blocked pieces on the floor; it looks like they'll fit together correctly; it's just that some of them are "wrinkled".

But before I sit down at the machine to put it all together, I had to re-organize all my quilting fabric.

Sound familiar anyone? (and in the process found SO many more UFOs!!!)

I should have an update on the lone star quilt gone wrong soon.

I wasn't smart enough NOT to try a double wedding ring. It was a HUGE lessons-learned moment. And I probably will NEVER make one again. What you can't see well from the avatar image is that the light background is itself pieced. I'm attaching a larger version where you might be able to tell. And there was NO strip-piecing/cutting. All individual pieces.
(I'm still procrastinating on the lone-star fix...)

    Thanks, born2quilt.
Actually, the way this one was done, there weren't really any "curves" to speak of because the "curves" were broken down into small pieces; I'll dig out the template and scan a section of it so you can see what I mean.
