Default Lone Star quilt

I am wanting to make a Lone Star quilt and want to make it for a king size bed. All of the patterns I've checked into use a 2.5 " strip. to start. If I made the strip 3.5 " instead would the star come out okay?

yes it will. you can you any width of strip as long as you are consistent. you can make the diamonds themselves bigger or make more rows of the diamonds in order to achieve the size you want. Can't wait to see it!

I've made a few lone star quilts but I always used the same size diamonds to make the star. I would think it wouldn't matter what size you use, it's the angle that is the important part. Why not take some scrap fabric and try it out? That's what I do when I've got a quilt block in mind and have to figure it out myself.

I just did one using strips cut at 3 inch with a 6 inch border. The whole quilt is 84” square. The star itself is 72 inches across. Here it is still waiting on backing fabrics. This is laying on a double bed

To enlarge the quilt you might make smaller lone star blocks at the corners then add sashing and a border to also enlarge it. I've added cutoffs made into HST, SIAS, etc to use up the scraps and to enlarge the size either all sides or maybe just top and bottom to make it longer.

You can make your Star pieces any size you want but you will need to figure out the size of the setting pieces.

Another thing to consider is can you get your 8 cuts from a strip set? I didn’t have a lot of leftovers but not sure if it was enough to cut 3 1/2” strips. Trash has picked up so I cannot check that for you

This gal explains the process very well and has made several different size strip Lone Stars.
One thing to note. To me, the Lone Star quilts are more appreciated by me when I can see the entire lone star on top of the bed. There are so many ways to do the drop. I Googled it and the images are just stunning. https://www.google.com/search?sxsrf=...w=1020&bih=653

cjsew that is beautiful!! I don't want the star to hang over the side but if this is on a full size bed it would probably be just right for a king. Thanks for the help.
