Perhaps if you were to enlarge Amma's templete 200% it would give you the 8" you are looking for.
of course to complete the pattern it would still be nessary to sew four sections together. resulting in a 16" finished block.

I am starting to think I am searching for something that does not exist. :?

Thanks.

I surrender! It cannot be done in one piece. I have tried for the last several hours, just frogging away. It has to be done in the 8 sections to a block. I tried, but there is no way to get those "y" seams in, I am always left with 2 pieces that cannot be sewn. Ahhh, but I have learned and understand now! Thank you sew much ladies. I love the HST, that I might try. But, Traditional, that quilt is gorgeous! That I would love to try! :-P Thank you all so much for all of the suggestions. I have learned there are many ways to make a hunters star block. And they are easier than the way I was trying

I just copied one out of fons and porter and each 1/4 is 8". until I read this thread, I did not realize what a BIG pattern it will make. maybe too big for me.....maybe I can reduce it.... fons and porter april 2013. I was cleaning and ran across it... in my sewing room....
