    Default Looking for a fabric

Someone wants me to make her a messenger bag out of red/black tartan. So far, I can only find flannel. Doesn't tartan come in something other than flannel and fleece?
    Thanks

I guess it all depends on how specific she wants to be when she says "tartan". My husband's family has Scottish roots, so we have our own tartan, which includes a certain pattern to the plaid weave and specific colors to be used in that plaid.

If your friend doesn't care, just wants something that looks plaid, maybe you could find some durable duck or twill.

As peck said, I actually have a cutting of my families tartan that my grandmother got on a trip to Scotland. It is a woolish type feel to it. I would ask her if she wanted a "real" tartan or just a plaid fabric. if a real one you might want to let her know that most are in a wool. you might contact some Scottish fabric shops and see if they have a tartan fabric that is not in a wool. but that is just my two cents. good luck.
