My brother wants me to make him a quilt after I finish the one Iam making for myself. It is driving him crazy that I am deal with "all those little pieces" lol.
So he wants large blocks, simple perhaps with a Western theme, he mentioned just outlines of things in black? applique?
He is 68 years young so nothing "cute' would work. Also he is a clean nick so this quilt will get washed at least WEEKLY.
Any ideas?

I just made a quilt using the turning twenty like pattern using only three pieces to make the block.(12.5x12.5) I used the large part for the theme and the two other parts for companion fabrics and it turned our really well. I used some novelty Alabama fabric for the large piece , a red (dominate) poka dot and white for one piece and a black and white (dominate) poka dot for the other. Going to bind with another black (dominate) and white. Now I am rambling but hope you get the picture!
When I get it finished, I will take a picture and try to post. I have not done that before.
Good luck.

going by what you said you could do a profile quilt.
Take a plain background light color, then cut your western theme "profiles" out of black. then you could even raw edge applique (the more washing it gets the better it looks I think) them onto the block and then do some red fabric like this

for sashing!
simple looking but very unique!

What about black and white and a black and white cowboy print. This site has some beautiful fabric.

do a nine patch or go to quilters cache (I think) and pick out a block that has a large center
Check in the bargain corner they have fabric that is black/white or brown/white so looks like the shadow figures someone had mentioned
