Beautiful quilt! Here's a huge selection of minkee (I noticed that they have charcoal and silver - happy shopping!):

Alien, thank you! Perfect! I really think a charcoal or grey minky would soften the whole look.
The pattern makes the quilt 108 x 108 but I really wanted to make it smaller. I had in mind an extra large throw. Do you all think if I proportionately decreased the sizes of each block and made the border a bit narrower (still wide-ish tho cause I like the look of the wide border) it would still have the dramatic impact it has now?

You're welcome!
I don't have any experience with that pattern. But, just wanted to say, if you want a lap quilt, the minkee is on average 58" wide. If your quilt is slightly less than that, like 54" you would not have to piece the minkee. I have done this several times. And I like to bring the minkee around to the top and hem it down. I posted a tutorial in the tutorial forum on how to do this without any bulk on the corners.
