If you are making the quilt to be a warm layer, square corners are appropriate, if you are making a quilt to be a bedspread, having the blunt corners helps prevent tripping hazards. Just my thoughts.

I love the Lover’s Knot pattern! I used to make this pattern all the time but don’t have a single example of it left(other than the cage cover as a memory, and it’s in the attic). I made several Queen/King size as presents and many baby quilts out of smaller strips. I even made a bird cage cover out of it for my parrot 25 years ago with tiny strips! I think I must have used the squared off method because I simply assembled my blocks for the pattern, I don’t remember cutting triangles or assembling diagonally.
Jingle’s colors are lovely!

Welcome to the Quilting Board!
I think you are referring to what I call a "cropped corner".
A photo of one that I have done is in this thread.
Three Completions!!!
Is this what you are meaning?
When a quilt is on the bed, the corner drapes, so that it hangs lower than the sides and end.
With a cropped corner, it evens it up more so.
That's one advantage of a cropped corner .... another being a unique design option.
I don't think of a cropped corner as an 80s thing, as SewBizGirl mentioned.
I see it as a personal choice, when it worked for a specific quilt such as the one in this link.

I agree with madamekelly. It depends on how much "overhang" you have. If the quilt has a long overhang, the squared corners will puddle on the floor and create a tripping hazard but, if using it with a bedskirt, the squared corners are no problem. Personally I prefer the squared corners so the quilt looks good no matter which end is at the head of the bed.

mine is on the bed now, made it many moons ago and it has cropped corners. Love the way it turned out. I also put a binding on my quilt and hand quilted it . so I feel it is a personnel choice on what you do
