Yes yes and yes, snap it up, that machine alone is worth every penny, with cabinet thrown in. You can get more than that for the machine. I have a 930 and everytime I take mine in they try to get me to sell it to them. They are a work horse believe me. My poor machine has been all over the US, I don't service it like I should, I don't even change the needle like I should and pins, well we all know those just get in the way sometimes. Oops did I say that outloud? I would even get it if I had a chance, owning the one I have. I would just have two work horses.

It's worth every penny. Get it quick. My sister got my mom's pristine 830 and she doesn't sew and I'm not happy cause I wanted it and my 810 had just kicked the bucket! I"ll get over it some day I'm sure.

My mom gave me her mint 830 about 10 years ago. For the past 9 years, it has been used for sewing clothes and a few pairs of curtains. Bernina makes wonderful presser feet which are still available so I have added to my collection over the years. The newer 1/4" patchwork foot makes piecing so much more precise. And I love the blind hemming foot which comes with the machine! The detachable knee lift bar wasn't really useful to me until I started quilting, but now I use it all of the time.

I have been using the 830 this weekend to FMQ my first large project-- a twin size quilt. It handles this task quite easily, with little adjustment. I had bought a vintage Singer 15-91, (to "save" my Bernina from wear and tear) because it is supposed to be equally up to the task, but it just didn't feel as "familiar" for such a new skill. So I went back to my Bernina. I don't hear any strain in the motor.

A few of the older 830's had electronic foot pedal (controllers) which would stick and overheat, but if the machine has been used, it has probably been replaced or didn't have the problem. So definitely try out the machine at full speed to check out the foot pedal.

If you take the time to clean the lint and dust out of the bobbin area after every project and learn to oil it properly, an 830 will perform very well. I've never had a computerized machine, so I guess I don't know what I'm missing, but my 830 does everything I need.

We all have been sweating bullets here wondering if you got that machine. So please let us know. You could probably if you didn't want the cabinet turn around and sell it yourself and pay for that machine. It is well worth it.

I sold my mother's Bernina at a garage sale this spring for $30. She still had the 30 year warranty, which expired a year ago. If it's a 1980 model, you might still have another year of service on it.

Cabinet would look good with a little refurbishing. Not sure about the asking price, but I know you can't buy much at a store for $450.

Just a note to let you know why I do not and would not buy and/or post anything on Craig's List. It was revealed on national news that child molesters post on Craig's list for young girls and boys and the police have arrested many of them along with 13 year old pregnant girls in raids on hotels. The national news showed one young black girl as the police raided the room and she was extremely grateful and crying because she was now free. When Craig's List was notified by CNN, they just put a warning "No one under 18 allowed on this site." Whoop!!!! Yes ladies, they have a porno site. Just wanted to let everyone know. Thank you. GiGi

The cabinet is great - a good one would put the sewing level at the same height as the rest of the table. But the rest of the bernina folks are telling you the machine is a bargain.

Take your husband or another guy you know along for security! Can't be too careful with Craig's list OR ANY classified listing nowadays, unfortunately.

Just like everything in our crazy world, you have to be careful. We have bought several things off craig's list and had great experience. I have a great pile of fabric and quilt books and recently my treadle! Great buys! We never go alone and always meet in public:)So, again, use common sense but, there are honest great buys to pick up. :)Skeat
