I was there when my tech showed me why I need to red letter the check up day for my machine --- he had a machine in from someone who cleans and maintains her own machine ---- everything looked clean and lint free, however the owner was concerned about the machine not working quite right --- you know, when the car engine sounds a bit off??? Anyway, when the machine was opened up there was felted lint packed solid around the drive shaft and in nooks and crannies where the owner couldn't access. So, to me it is worth the time away from my machine ---under warranty so will be covered--- to make certain that my cotton threads and fabrics are not leaving a felted mess behind. I was also reminded that when using the monofilament threads to be careful if the thread breaks when removing it so pieces don't migrate down to the drive shaft and cause major troubles. If I pay for the yearly maintenance I feel it is well worth going without goodies for a bit to have my machine in top shape.
