Can anyone tell me how old a BROTHER LS1520 is?

I can buy one for $20.

Is it worth it??

I looked it up on Amazon and it said that model was discontinued. If you Google Brother LS 1250 it will give you some limited information. It only has 21 stitches...at Overstock.com you can buy a reconditioned Brother with 80 stitches and automatic needle threader for $99. I'd wait and get that one. I bought it last year and it is fantastic.

On the other hand if it works and will fit your needs at the moment go for it . But if it doesn't work , take a pass on it , it will cost you more to fix it then it is worth

I looked up a review if you want to read it.

I've had two Brother sewing machines and liked both of them. The one I have now is my "class" machine because it's lightweight and easy to take. It's a CE4000 and I got it off Craigslist for $60. It just depends on what you want.
