Last week or so I saw a pretty tee shirt quilt top, it was mostly gray in color.I am going to be making my first one and am wondering after you get all the sqs. together to quilt. Do you just quilt in the ditch and not over the tee fronts?
    Thanks in advance, Pickle

You can do either. But they are very heavy so if you are quilting on a DSM it may be a pretty good workout quilting it. I have also just tied them with high loft batting. I tie them every 3". I have quilted all over on my LA and that looked good too. Here is a pic of the one I did on the LA. I didn't make this T quilt, I only quilted it.

did you iron on interfacing on the back of each tshirt first. Was that interfacing enough to stabilize the 'knit' shirt ??? I have one pending to do and have put it off due to lack of knowledge....

I have not started my shirt yet but I googled Tee shirt quilt and you get a lot of info there. And yes you should use a very light weight fusible interfacing.
I was mostly wondering if people quilted stitched in the ditch. The ones I have seen on here look so nice I like the off centeerd rows but I don't know how to achieve that look. I am someone that needs a pattern or doesn't trust my own idea. I hate when that happens.LOL

I guess it depends on the batting you choose. If it allows you to quilt far enough apart, then you can go around the tshirt designs.
If not, then you will have to quilt through them :D:D:D

I like the look of the one that had the quilting right up to the center design.....I have a queen size quilt to make out of a life time of shirts and pictures and trips and photos....If it wasn't for family would not do...have successfully put it off for almost a year now,,,,but I think it will become my summer nightmare.....

I have done several and if its a runner's quilt I trace around the persons tennis shoes and then do a pattern of left and then right foot prints. For a band quilt I used music notes. For someone that was going into radio I used an old microphone pattern to quilt it. Take your cue from the t-shirts themselves.
