Depends how you are quilting. For hand and DSM quilting I use painters tape. On the DSM after quilting the first line I use a seam guage adaptor for the subsequent lines. For hand, I use my ruler and reposition the tape. For LA I use the chaco liner in white and a cutting ruler. http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&page...Achaco%20liner For dark fabrics. Blue water soluble pen for light.
NOte of caution, have had bad luck with the colored varieties embedding in my thread so I stick with white only.

I use a chaco liner. I've had it since the 80s or maybe longer. I finally ran out recently and refilled it with corn starch. It doesn't work quite as well as the chalk but it's cheap so for now, that's what I'm using.

If you are machine quilting, I use a Clover hera marker for marking lines . They use to sell them at JAF but I don't know if they still do. If your want to see what one looks like, then do a search on eBay. I am certain someone has a picture. Painter tape is also easy but remember you always want to reference from you center starting line to make sure you are still accurate with your spacing.
GOOD LUCK!!!
