I love using 1/4 masking tape when I had quilt. It's a little tricky to find but I discovered you could order it on Amazon prime. Love using it.

our group uses masking tape to tape down for stretching and also for masking straight lines on quilts for actual quilting, works a treat and doesn't appear to harm the fabric, (I wouldn't leave it taped up and in full sunlight for any length of time though)
