OK--never did make a good grade in math. Problem, I have a pattern for a 'Super fast jelly roll quilt' where you sew end to end and keep cutting it in half till you finish with a 50 x 64 using the whole jelly roll. If I wanted to make one about 36 x 44 or something close to that. How many strips would I have to sew together? I don't want to waste and cut it to size using the whole jelly roll. Thanks in advance if you can help me.

Use half the jelly roll (20 strips). Remember to offset the first strip.

I agree with MTS. You will need 20 strips and cut off 8" from the first one. To figure: 44" length = 22 strips (strips are 2 1/2", but the 1/2" = the 1/4" seam allowance on both sides.) The width is 36. So, 36 x 22 = 792. The strips are 40" long. Divide 40 into 792 = 20 strips, with 8" left over.
