Are you using Judy Martins pattern from her book The Creative Pattern Book. It is on clearance at judymartin.com. I made a SITP using her instructions. Came out perfect. See my avatar made with hand dyed fabric and a quality Moda muslin

love yours hope mine turns out as good but this will be a long winter project for me.
